What is the fuel and charging policy for returning a hybrid rental van?

We operate a “like-for-like” return policy for both petrol and electricity. We provide the vehicle with a specific level of fuel and charge, and we ask that you return the van at those same levels. While we always aim to provide a well-charged battery, we do not guarantee a 100% charge at the start of every hire. If you are unable to match the initial levels, we will simply settle the difference upon your return.

How do I charge a rental hybrid van while on the road?

You can charge at thousands of public points across the UK using the van’s supplied cable. We recommend using the Zapmap app to find live status updates for fast chargers near your route. The van also uses regenerative braking to help top up the battery while you drive.

What happens if the hybrid battery runs out of power?

There is no risk of being stranded. When the electric battery runs low, the petrol engine and automatic transmission take over seamlessly. This “best of both worlds” approach allows you to enjoy the efficiency of an electric motor without any of the range anxiety associated with long-distance travel.

Do I need a special licence to drive a 3.5-tonne hybrid van?

No, a standard full UK/EU Category B driving licence allows you to drive all vehicles in our fleet up to 3.5 tonnes, including the Transit Custom PHEV. You do not need any additional special qualifications to operate our automatic hybrid models.
