When you book a vehicle at least two weeks in advance, you can choose to pay just one-third of the total hire cost at the time of booking. We'll send you a secure payment link for the remaining two-thirds, which you can pay at any time, as long as the balance is settled at least one week before your collection date. If you'd rather pay in full at booking, that's fine too.

Absolutely not. There are no interest charges, no admin fees, and no hidden costs. You pay the exact same total price. The only difference is that you split it into two payments for your convenience.

The remaining two-thirds of your hire cost must be paid at least seven days before your vehicle collection date. We’ll send you a friendly reminder email in case you forget.

The flexible 1/3 payment option is available across our entire fleet — cars, vans, minibuses, and specialist vehicles. The only requirement is that you book at least two weeks in advance.

If the remaining balance hasn't been received at least seven days before your collection date, our team will reach out to remind you and resend your payment link. We want to make it as easy as possible. However, we do need full payment before your vehicle can be released.

Of course. The 1/3 payment option is completely optional. If you'd rather pay in full at the time of booking, you're welcome to do so. The choice is entirely yours.

Humber Bridge Goes Cashless: Quick Guide for Customers Heading North

Big changes if you’re driving up to Yorkshire or Lincolnshire

The Humber Bridge has ditched its toll booths as of 31 January. Now it works like the Dartford Crossing – you just drive through and pay online by midnight the next day.

How to pay

It’s pretty straightforward:

Pay on the Humber Bridge website
Use their mobile app
Buy crossings in advance if you want
Set up an account if you’re crossing multiple times

The important bit

If you’re hiring from us and crossing the bridge, you need to pay the toll yourself. We can’t transfer the charge, so if it comes to us unpaid, we’ll have to pass it on to you plus an admin fee. Save yourself the hassle and just pay it on time.

Going back and forth a lot?

Their business account lets you add vehicles temporarily, which might be handy if you’re up there for a few days.

Got charged by mistake?

You can dispute it through their contact page, but they’ll only refund genuine errors – not if you just put the wrong reg in.

Driving a 150kg Pumpkin for a Great Cause!

At Kendall Cars, we love supporting good causes in our community. Especially when they involve something as unexpected (and heavy!) as a 150kg pumpkin!

This September, we received an interesting request from Matt, a local resident and valued customer. Matt had successfully grown an enormous 150kg pumpkin and needed a reliable vehicle to safely transport it to Tulleys Farm in Crawley. While the logistics might sound straightforward, moving something that size requires the right vehicle and careful planning.

That’s where our pickup truck hire service came in.

But this wasn’t just about pumpkin- it was about purpose.

Giant Pumpkin Helping Raise £1000 for East Surrey Hospital

Matt is currently undergoing chemotherapy at East Surrey Hospital, after being diagnosed with blood cancer in July 2024. But even while dealing with his treatment, he still managed to grow this incredible pumpkin with the hope of turning it into something positive. His goal was to raise money for the Surrey & Sussex Healthcare (SASH) Charity Cancer Fund – the charity supporting him throughout his treatment.

When Matt reached out to us, he mentioned he wanted to keep his costs as low as possible so that more money could go directly to the fundraiser. Without hesitation we offered him one of our reliable Ford Ranger pickup trucks completely free of charge to get the job done.

£1,000 Raised and Media Attention: The Impact of One Pumpkin

Tulleys Farm bought Matt’s impressive 150kg pumpkin for £1,000, with all the money going straight to the cause. It was a fantastic example of what can happen when local businesses and individuals come together. Even better, the story caught the attention of the media. It was featured in Surrey Live, helping to spread awareness and encourage even more support.

We’re proud to have played a small part in supporting such a meaningful effort. But the real credit goes to Matt – for his strength, creativity, and determination to give back, even while facing his own challenges.

New Silvertown Tunnel opened on 7 April 2025

Where the tunnels are

Both tunnels connect the A102 between the south and north sides of the river. Blackwall Tunnel connects the A102 on the west sides of the Greenwich Peninsula to the A12 at Poplar.

Silvertown Tunnel connects on the east side of the Greenwich Peninsula to the A1026 Lower Lea Crossing and A13, and other local destinations.

When charges apply

06:00 – 22:00, Every day except Christmas Day (25th Of December)
Peak charge times: Weekdays 06:00 – 10:00 (northbound) and 16:00 – 19:00 (southbound)
Off-peak charge times: Weekdays outside of peak times, and at all times on weekends

Crossings are free between 22:00 – 06:00.

Both tunnels are open 24 hours a day. If you drive through either Blackwall or Silvertown Tunnel during charging hours, you will need to pay each time you cross, unless your vehicle is exempt from paying the charge. These charges apply in both directions. Find out about charges and what to pay.

Sign up to Auto Pay and you’ll automatically pay off-peak charges when they apply. Without Auto Pay, you’ll pay peak charges at all times.

Discounts and exemptions for local residents and small businesses

If you live within the surrounding boroughs, you may qualify for certain discounts and exemptions for tunnel charges and local public transport.

East London residents on certain low income benefits may be eligible for a 50% discount on tunnel charges.

Small businesses, charities, and sole traders with a registered address in Greenwich, Newham or Tower Hamlets may be eligible for £1 off the off-peak charge for up to three vehicles.
